Ardmore is a town in Chester county PA. and a census place in Delaware and Montgomery counties in the untied states of Pennsylvania. The population was 12,455 in 2010. Ardmore is a suburb on the west side of Philadelphia. within Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County. and also in Haverford Township and in Delaware County also know as Delco. Originally named Thiensville in the 1800s. the community and its train station were now named “Ardmore” in 1873 by the Pennsylvania Railroad, on whose Main Line, west out of Philadelphia, now the trains run from Philadelphia all the way to Delaware and Maryland. The public transportation and train stations in Ardmore PA are currently still used today as a source of travel.
according to the US Census Bureau, they have a total area of 2.0 square miles, all of it land. Ardmore is adjacent to Wynnewood , Haverford, Gladwyne , as well as Havertown. Residents from South East Ardmore and Wynnewood cooperate as the Ardmore Civic Association. The Ardmore Progressive Civic Association serves the historically black section of Ardmore bordered by Ardmore Civic Association, Haverford College, Montgomery Avenue, and the Montgomery/Delaware County line. The North Ardmore Civic Association represents residents of North Ardmore and Wynnewood north of Montgomery Avenue. The South Ardmore Betterment Alliance is a community group in the southern Haverford Township location of Ardmore which organizes various community activities. This brings the community of Ardmore Pennsylvania closer as a whole.
Ardmore’s train station is served by SEPTA Regional Rail’s Paoli/Thorndale Line and Amtrak passenger trains. Residents and visitors enjoy several recreation areas, including South Ardmore Park, which is located in neighboring Wynnewood. though many mistake it for Ardmore, when it certainly is not. Suburban Square opened in the 1900’s one of the earliest shopping centers in the United States, is located near the Ardmore train station. Ardmore contains the nation’s first suburban branch of a major department store, the former Strawbridge which opened in 1930 and the old movie theater which is now Not Your Average Joe’s Restaurant. the newly relocated Ardmore Farmer’s Market. Ardmore PA, even now has an Apple Store. and the average selection of mall shops. Other landmarks within the Ardmore Progressive Civic Association borders include the Ardmore Post Office and Ardmore Public Library (part of the Lower Merion Library System) on South Ardmore Avenue. Ardmore is home to many hockey rinks allowing visitors to come in for a skate, or a hockey game. on Greenfield Avenue there are many public swimming pools. There is a wide selection of tennis/basketball courts, and the community center known as “The Shack”. There is also two senior housing units for the elderly.
